In April, the improvement work started to repair the green roof of the PCiTAL building in Lleida. After several weeks of work, the green roof is almost ready to become a green area for all the building dwellers to enjoy.
The BIG4LIFE team has re-designed the rooftop to provide a convenient habitat for the plants it will host. The new configuration includes nine different sectors where six host sedum plants while the other three are destined for xeriscaping, thus creating green roofs that require little irrigation and maintenance. This implies the use of specific plants to ensure their adaptability to the climate of the location.
After removing all the layers of the original green roof, the team placed a new waterproof layer, filtron slabs, drainage sheet, distribution blanket, substrate, irrigation, and finally the vegetation. Now, the team is waiting for the vegetation to take hold before installing the final elements: adding decomposed granite to create paths as well as some platforms.
