BIG systems support biodiversity in urban environments. BIG4LIFE researchers have installed autonomous bio-trapping cameras to have a log of all the animals visiting the project’s green roof at the Agrobiotech Park in Lleida in search of water, food, or shelter.
The first fauna observations happened just a few hours after installing the camera: a common magpie (Pica pica) and a house sparrow (Passer domesticus).
In addition, the team has taken advantage of this task, framed in the WP5-Monitoring, to implement a Community Service Learning activity with Roger Prenafeta, a student of the Master in Forest Engineering at the University of Lleida (WP4-Capacity Building), tasked with monitoring the visiting fauna.
