The BIG4LIFE project has undertaken the refurbishment of the green roof of the Artesà Auditorium in El Prat de Llobregat, with work starting in late October and scheduled for completion by the third week of December 2024.
This project has faced unique challenges due to the auditorium’s active theatre schedule, requiring the team to adjust to performance and rehearsal schedules. As a result, the refurbishment has progressed on alternate days to minimize disruptions while ensuring the work meets high-quality standards.
The refurbishment involves a series of steps to restore and enhance the roof’s functionality. These include removing weeds, aerating the substrate by stirring it, maintaining the irrigation system, and replanting vegetation. This time, sedum plants were added in plugs to improve their establishment and resilience. Areas with healthy existing sedums have been carefully preserved.
This project exemplifies BIG4LIFE’s commitment to revitalizing green infrastructure in urban areas, supporting biodiversity, improving air quality, and enhancing thermal insulation. The refurbished roof of the Artesà Auditorium is set to contribute long-term ecosystem benefits while demonstrating the viability of sustainable urban solutions tailored to community needs.
BIG4LIFE continues to pave the way for greener, more resilient cities through innovative building-integrated greenery systems.
